LG smart TVs were caught recording audio in standby mode, and it happened on standard retail units, not hacked ones
A 135-minute investigation published this month by hardware channel Gamers Nexus, working with Level1Techs and independent security researchers, found that retail LG OLED smart TVs actively scan home networks to map nearby devices, collect Wi-Fi network names and signal data, and can buffer microphone audio locally while in standby mode, uploading it once network connectivity is restored.
